What are the types of SQF Audits?

SQF offers 6 different editions and three levels of audits

SQF audits cover food safety, retail, service, and quality - below, you will find each type of audit explained.


The SQF Food Safety Audit edition 9 is the most recent version of the SQF Food Safety audits, as it was released on May 24, 2021. This audit is one of our many HACCP-based codes that cover primary production, manufacturing, storage & distribution, and food packaging. This audit is a GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) recognized program. 

 


The SQF Food Retail Audit edition 8.1 is the food safety solution for the entire spectrum of food retail.

 


The SQF Foodservice Audit edition 8.1 is the food safety solution for the foodservice industry to reduce and eliminate food safety risks through a third-party audit that was created to provide the foodservice industry with the tools to build a proactive food safety management system at all locations. 

 

The SQF Fundamentals Audit edition 1.0 is the food safety solution for small and medium businesses that do not have a robust food safety plan in place or want to take their existing program to the next level. This audit creates a pathway for achieving a GFSI standard. 

 


The SQF Quality Audit for Non-SQF Food Safety Sites edition 9 is for sites that are not registered for any SQF food safety audit. This audit can be applied to primary production, food manufacturing, storage & distribution, and food packaging sites that hold a food safety certification equivalent to a GFSI recognized program, any GFSI technically equivalent standard, or other food safety management standard (FSMS), including HACCP certification or ISO 22000-2018. 

 

Safe Feed Certified for 7 Consecutive Years | Nature's Best

The Safe Feed/Safe Food Audit version 7.0 is an audit created in partnership with the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) to further provide the animal food industry with a standard for protecting the safety of feed products and to enhance consumer confidence in the feed and food supply. 


The three levels of audits were formerly known as levels I, II, and III. With the release of version 9, SQF has changed these levels to Fundamentals, Food Safety, and Food Safety & Quality.
